YOUNG COMMUNICATORS SOCIETY ATTENDS THE 5TH COMGUILD CONFERENCE


Together with University of Saint Anthony faculty member- Janette Morada and Jokee Reyes, eight (8) USANT students joined the delegation of AB Communication and AB Journalism educators and students nationwide last August 1, 2010 at the AFP Theater, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City for the 5th Annual Conference of Journalism and Mass Communication Students of the Philippines with the theme: “Pursuit of Mass Media towards Responsible Broadcast Journalism”.

This activity was made possible by COMGUILD Center for Journalism. This company is the fastest growing media training center in the Philippines. It provides conferences, lectures, seminars and workshops and international study tours on journalism for communication students of different colleges and universities in the country. Through these activities they encourage, educate and inspire students to be competitive in the field of broadcast journalism and later on become responsible media practitioners.

The seminar consisted of talks and presentations given by the media practitioners from the two biggest networks in the country and other invited speakers. News casting, Responsible Journalism, Effective Magazine Making, and Life of a Journalist are some of the topics presented. The speakers were Doland Castro, a veteran ABS-CBN reporter; Mr. Jeremy Torr, Managing Editor of Discovery Channel Magazine; Ms. Sandra Aguinaldo, Reporter/ Documentarist of GMA7; and Ms. Mariz Umali, News Anchor/Reporter of GMA7 and QTV11.

COMGUILD also awarded the most promising broadcasters in the Philippine Industry. Mr. Anthony Taberna took the 2010 Best Male Field Reporter and Ms. Ina Reformina for the Best Female Field Reporter. The bacon was also bagged by Ms. Karen Davila and Mr. Ted Failon for Most Outstanding Male and Female News Presenter respectively. Mel Tiangco of GMA7 was judged by the panelists as the Hall of Fame awardee.

The judges were from the different deans of various universities in the Philippines. They screened out the nominees based from their accuracy in news casting, way of news delivery, and outstanding performance in their field. Students in turn grabbed the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers after the talk.

The event is really a great success to all the organizers and to all the delegates who came in. COMGUILD is looking forward for more activities and congress that will surely brought learning to every media studies students who will be the soon media practitioners in the country..
